I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at McKinsey & Company (Toronto, ON) in Oct 2009
Interview
There were 2 back-to-back interviews, both having a behavioural and case component.
Behavioural: 1st interview asked to step thru a time when I had to take a leadership role. The interviewer interrupted several times to specifically probe what I did, what was said, what I was thinking at the time, and how I believed I was serving as a leader. For the 2nd interview, I was asked how I approached a difficult or tense situation with a team member.
Case: 1st one was related to competitor dynamics and reasons for seeing market share declining. 2nd one was related to how to evaluate performance of an organization.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What did you specifically say during this interaction? (during behavioural interview). Did not assume I would have to recall actual dialog.
First, there is a computer test screening. Then, you get invited for the first round interview, usually conducted by an AP. Then, for second round, you have two interviews with Partners. You get feedback quickly, less than a week between interview and feedback
3 stage interview with increasing seniority. Opportunity to prepare with current colleagues prior to interview which was useful. Straight forwards process, no big suprises if you prepare in advance but prep is needed
Prepared for assessment but did not make it through first stage. Not difficult but high pressured with time constraint. Lots of materials on youtube which can be used for reference
