      Software Developer Interview

      2 Jun 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Sofia, Sofia (city)
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at SAP (Sofia, Sofia (city)) in May 2015

      Interview

Applied through referral. The process took 1.5 months. There where 4 interviews: First was with HR, team lead and architect. The second - a test, was in the same day. The third was with the team you would work with and the 4th was with the senior managers of sap labs in the country. All interviews (except the test) featured behavior and tech questions. There were 2 homework tasks. The process was not pleasant. The questions were for core java architecture, multi threading, recursion. The only relevant to the job interview was the one with the team. One of the negative things during the interview was on a question "how can you optimize an application for high load usage", after several suggestions (the architect wanted to hear sth specific) I said that "if that still doesn't work I will search on the matter to find solution". The architect's response was "Yea, we all now how to search in google..." Declined the offer, because the offered position was extremely low in the hierarchy, and the payment was not good, too. No room for negotiation.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How is the memory in java sectioned? How can you create a dead lock? what is the java thread lock? What is dijkstra? How many locks there are in a database? recursion -> fibonacci numbers, power of two (and bitwise). Create OO architecture of the animal kingdom

      Anonymous employee
      Brno
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at SAP (Brno) in Jun 2026

      Interview

3 rounds of interviews: quick prescreening call with HR, on-site meeting with the manager, and a tech call with the lead engineer. Prescreening was as usual. On the same day, I got a call from the manager and planned a second round for the next workday. The second round was the most important. First quick introduction, then easy puzzle, then 15 min of technical questions (OOP, basic programming principles, Relational DBs, etc) - pretty easy, nothing too deep. Then, about 40 minutes talk about previous experience, position, hobbies, and other basic topics. Very pleasant and friendly, good atmosphere. The third round was very quick - no live coding, a couple of architectural questions, static code analysis, and how to improve it (N+1 problem), SQL questions, overall around 10-15 minutes. Received an offer a couple of days after. The whole process was clean, friendly, and fast at every level.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How would you add a new PK to a table with 1 million entries? What is OOP? Explain polymorphism. What is relational DB? What is an index?
