      Buyer Interview

      24 Jun 2009
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Minneapolis, MN
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Target (Minneapolis, MN) in Nov 2008

      Interview

The process began with a phone screen with an HR representative. This was basically a walk through of the resume with the logistics for the in-person interview to be conducted at an upcoming career event. This was followed with an in-person interview with someone outside the department I was interviewing for. During this, the interviewer asked some of the typical marketing questions (re: leadership, teamwork, etc.) and explained the culture of the organization. Following this step, candidates remaining (of which I was one) were asked to complete several online assessments prior to flying out for the final round of interviews with department leaders. These consisted of mathematical reasoning, vocabulary, and logic problems, as well as a personality profiler. At the final rounds, we were taken on tours of various departments, given a presentation on the company, and paired with a recent hire, so we could ask him/her more about the company. We also completed a management simulation and took more skills tests. The simulation case materials were provided in advance, but we were not entirely sure what would happen until we arrived and were given the final instructions. The other tests were very straightforward. The interviews with potential department heads were also conducted this day. While everyone else was incredibly friendly, these folks were much tougher to read. It was clear they were looking for specific skills/qualities, and it was up to me to prove I had those qualities. Overall, the process was well organized and professional.

      Question 1

Management simulation: You're given a case and then at the final round, instructions to "solve" it. This is done through an outside HR company tied to Target.
