I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Target in Nov 2015
Interview
This was my first major interview so I was really nervous. I spent HOURS on Target's website learning everything I possibly could. I even made a little study guide (3 pages) of information from the website (careers section) and reviewed it as much as possible before my interviews. I also spent a lot of time thinking of different situations I could use for questions I might be asked. ALL THE QUESTIONS ARE BEHAVIORAL. IF YOU DO NOT PREPARE YOU WILL NOT GET THE JOB. PREPARE. PREPARE. PREPARE. I recommend using LinkedIn to connect with people in the area you're applying for that already work at Target as well as being really energetic and friendly. You want them to know you WANT the internship/job. I also recommend practicing answering questions and saying things out loud. If they ask you a question you don't want to be saying "uhm" a bunch of times.
Got the interview from a career fair. Met with one person who handled hiring and had a great conversation and had one other phone interview. Asked me relevant questions and I was excited about the role

I applied through university. I interviewed at Target (Charlotte, NC)
Interview
It was a two step interview process. Personable and you are able to interview with not only your direct managers but theirs as well. Provides transparency into your new team. My interview was virtual because I was moving to the area, but I'm sure they do in person for local folks.
