      Inside Sales Print/RSC Interview

      19 Sept 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Eagan, MN
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Thomson Reuters (Eagan, MN)

      Interview

First, I was contacted by email to schedule a phone interview. Then i spoke on the phone for about a half hour with a member of the recruiting team. She asked me mostly about passed experience, and talking metrics and my previous sales numbers such as surpassing sales goals was what she really liked to hear. She also wanted to hear how my pass job duties were similar to what i'd do at Thomson. In other words, she was making sure i had the skills and personality to succeed in Sales at Thomson. She also asked a variety of behavioral questions, what would i do in certain situations as well as normal interview questions such as what are your strengths and tell me about yourself. After phone interview she invited me to come in for an in person interview and sales phone call role play with two of the sales managers. I received a roll play scenario and was told to practice. I practiced A TON and was told by a friend at the company to be able to sell them multiple products, have a convincing and strong phone presence, be professional but more friendly then sounding like a person who wants to sell you something, only give a small discount if you have too in order to get the sale, and KNOW THE SALES PROCESS. I'm telling you, you MUST practice a lot for this role play because they do a lot of tricky things to test your sales skills such as having multiple objections, wanting to know more about the product/s, asking about how it meets their needs, preventing you from uncovering certain needs, etc. My advice for the role play is to know how to uncover customer needs and then convince them how the product/s meet their needs and how it would ultimately be a great return on investment, as well as why/how it would be worth it to buy the product. You also want to show that you can build a relationship with a customer quickly and are not afraid to push them to buy and that you have good communication/people skills. The interview before the role play lasted about an hour with more "what would you do in this situation" questions, and "tell me about a time when you had to overcome objections from a client" questions. They also asked a lot about sales experience and wanted to see that i've proven i can build relationship with customers and that i can sell. They also were VERY interested in me knowing and explaining my sales process, and each step of it. The interview and role play together was an hour and half, as scheduled. I was told i would hear in 2 weeks or so but got a call 2 days later with an offer!!! I know its because i had practiced alot and was therefore very prepared and confident. After accepting the offer they do a very thorough background check conducted by a third party company called Hireright. So make sure u don't exaggerate on your resume or when you apply because they actually check dates, salary, job titles, degrees, previous addresses, etc. If they cant get a hold of human resources or someone at your previous employer you must provide W2s or other valid documentation to prove you worked there or did what you said you did. I had to provide a W2 for a company i worked at 6-7 years ago and is no longer in business. The background check took about a week and then i was sent an on-boarding link to watch videos and build an online profile. Other then all that info you're good to go. By the way, I'm writing this info because i wish i had it before my interview, i know how nerve wracking the process can be when your not sure what there looking for. Therefore, you're welcome! Remember practice and practice some more!!! Good luck!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What are your strengths? Weaknesses? Tell me about a time in school when you had to win someone over and overcome objections. Tell me about a time when you had a goal or objective that you didn't meet. Tell me about your day-to-day duties at your past job and walk me through the sales process you used.
