This position is located in Transport Section within the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). The Vehicle Technician will report to the Workshop Supervisor or his/her designate.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief Transport Officer or his designated official, the Vehicle Technician will be responsible for the following duties: • Services and repairs standard civilian pattern commercial vehicles in accordance with vehicle manufactures standards. • Services and repairs trucks and engineering equipment in accordance with manufactures standards. • Ensures that all relevant safety procedures have been followed when repairing and fitting replacement parts. • Conducts vehicle inspections such as pre-summer and winter inspections on UN-owned vehicles assigned to various units. • Produces reports to document all servicing and repairs. • Assists in identifying, diagnosing and rectifying various faults. • Assists with the identification of required parts • Is qualified to work on one or more of the following specialized systems: - Automotive Electrical System. - Air conditioning systems. - Suspension Systems. - Braking systems - Air systems - Hydraulic systems • Is qualified to work in one or more of the following specialized areas: - Diagnostic and fault finding with diagnostic tool - Quality Control/assurance - Road testing - Vehicle recovery • Is capable of safely modifying vehicles to meet specific requirements, overhauling major assemblies, fabricating components and spare parts, and extemporizing repairs. • Assist with training and coaching of mechanics within his/her expertise. • Carries out any other duties assigned by the supervisor or by the Head of Unit/Section.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

A valid driver's license for "B" category is required (a copy of a valid driving license must be attached). Valid driver's licenses for light and heavy (bus and truck) vehicles, category C, D is desirable. (a copy of valid driving license should be attached) A technical or vocational certificate as Motor vehicle Technician (National Certificate or equivalent) is desirable. (A copy of the certificate should be attached) A technical or vocational certificate in heavy-duty mechanics or other related fields is desirable. (A copy of the certificate should be attached)

Work Experience

At least five (5) years of relevant work experience in vehicle maintenance and repair are required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to 3 for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
