Pros

MOst of the people are great at KPMG (obviously a few do get through who you wouldn't socialise with if they didn't work with you). So many of the senior staff are approachable which always helps.

Cons

The hours are ALWAYS long especially once you get into years 3 and beyond. It's always "busy season". The appraisal process is flawed and everyone is always moaning about it; unfortunately it's more of a popularity contest than how good the person is, which inevitably causes some of the best people to leave the firm. The salary and bonus is rubbish when compared to bankers/lawyers of a similar intellect!

Pros

You get to work with an awesome, highly resilient group of local peers in the advisory practice. The KPMG brand still holds value, but the internal team dynamics have become incredibly fractured.

Cons

We have outsourced 80%+ of our Risk Advisory work, leaving onshore seniors with massive gaps in their experience. As a manager, I am stuck doing senior-level work because I typically have only one or zero local seniors or associates on my teams. The best leaders have already resigned because this model prevents actual management and mentoring. Also, it might take you 30+ years to become partner in Risk Advisory, if at all.
