Looks good on a resume, but unsatisfying. - Tax Associate KPMG Employee Review

Pros

Having Big 4 work experience on your resume. Learning about how a Big 4 firm operates. Gaining the experience of working with people all over the world on one project. Immediately being assigned to very difficult research projects.

Cons

Not being able to gain an understanding of the entire audit and tax process. Too much bureaucracy and inefficiencies. Having too many managers to answer to. Some days I would have four managers want me to work on their projects and other days I would be out of work. Also, the performance evaluation process was poor. I think this goes back to having too many managers. Sure, everyone has a performance manager, but I was never placed on one assignment with this manager. How is someone supposed to evaluate you, if they've never worked with you? Lastly, I was interested in gaining the NY experience requirements towards the CPA designation because I had already passed the exam, but was not once assigned the audit work that's required.

Pros

It might sound cliche but the Pro for me is the people that I work with. I'm lucky enough to be staffed in a team with great leadership. Managers are actually willing to coach junior members and be a real mentor. I very much appreciate their efforts.

Cons

Long hours and office politics. This is pretty basic and obvious for any public accounting firms. Every time a quarter end, year end, or a special filing is going out, you can expect 10-14 hour days. It might be fine in your early career but it gets really tiring after a few years.
