Out of Touch Management, Nepotism and Toxicity

Pros

Some of the people were great to work with. A lot of like-minded individuals.

Cons

My mental health has never been lower than when working at PLE Computers. -Employee retention is awful. Treated poorly and given minimal training. TREAT PEOPLE WELL, PAY THEM PROPERLY AND THEY WILL WANT TO WORK FOR YOU. Outsourcing isn't a solution. -Micromanagement from management who think they know everything. Hint: having trust in your employees goes a long way. -Disrespect for employee's personal life. Why should someone have to cancel their leave due to poor planning? Why do people still get contacted on days off? Cases of employees being told they need to do 6 days a week? -It doesn't take a genius to know a company run as nepotistic as this one is a bad idea. -Promotions? Pay rises? Might as well just pick a name out of a hat and make them the new managers. Managers are overpaid while others who do actual work are underpaid. (some managers do earn their wage packet but others are stealing a living with no consequence) -So much toxicity between different departments/stores. Everyone should be on the same team yet was made to feel like a rat race with no finish line. Stems from a negative and poor culture top down. -Unrealistic expectations, cut staff, and reduce hours yet expect all the same output. Could go on and on about how unenjoyable a job within this company is. Any other minimum wage job would be better than the cesspool that is PLE Computers.

Pros

Great people to work with Occasional staff dinners

Cons

- Unless you literally share blood with upper management you are just a means to an end. - you will be working overtime, even when told you wont be. (6, sometimes 7 days a week). - There's nothing left worth buying on your discount, as all the new tech is not allowed to be bought by staff, even though it has been on the shelves for more than 12 months now. (unless you're management, then feel free to buy 2, maybe 3). - Don't even bother trying to take your allocated breaks, as it's expected that if you have time to chat, then that should be your break instead. - Anyone who tries to make the workplace better for staff will be reprimanded for it. - Staff turnover is huge, 10+ staff members leaving within a year of each other - No room to progress, permanent staff that have been working hard will be looked over, while new casual employees with little to no knowledge will be trained and used instead. - Minimum wage, maximum expected of you. - Minimum staff parking, either park on the street and get your car into a crash, or three. or park down the road in a parking lot that you "might" be able to use.

Pros

1: Most staff that work there have the same interests and are (most of the time) really cool people. 2: If you like computers it's really cool seeing all the new tech come in store. (see con 4 for rebuttal)

Cons

1: Hierarchical system that is incredibly unforgiving at times. If you are in sales. expect to pick up peoples slack, do work for people who are too lazy, while being told you're not working fast enough. 2: For a family business they are very corporate minded and will often treat you as expendable. Cold shoulders all around, as no one wants to waste time getting to know you if you're only going to stick around for a short time. 3: Management would yell at people and threaten their job for menial things, rather than speaking to them like a human. 4: Won't be able to buy new tech until it is "in reliable supply" or in other words: when the company feels like selling it to you. Even when (and if) they do let you buy it, they will revoke staff price as they see fit and sell it to you quickly so they can benefit at EOFY. 5: Staff price is average at best and sometimes customers have better all around perks. 6: Customers can be difficult, have extremely unrealistic expectations and yell at you like you are solely responsible for the lack of GPU's. (Except for the good ones, they know who they are). 7: Almost funny, if it wasn't painful. For a computer store, half their tech is broken or buggy. Even if you bring it up multiple times, it will never be fixed. 8: Sideways progression, if any. Unless you're blood or you've been there for donkey's years (a very long time), good luck seeing yourself in any other position that has any 'real' benefit. I've seen people that worked there for 7 plus years treated like casuals. 9: Extremely unfair to new staff. You must know a lot about the current computer market when you join as they have no learning material. They will throw you in the deep end, with someone to train you who has seen many before you fail. At this point the trainer has completely given up training people and will often leave you to sink or swim. Customers can be really pretentious to trainees and will speak down at you for not knowing the most obscure tech related tech knowledge. The manager has high expectations and will let you go on the spot. 10: Manager is lazy and unapproachable. Will sit in his office all day frowning as you wonder what his purpose is other than to watch you on cameras (even on his day's off) making sure you're working at 110% peak efficiency. 11: No parking whatsoever. If you drive, prepare to be told to move your car multiple times or park it a few blocks away. Maybe you will have the pleasure of meeting one of the adjacent unit owners, that (when prompt) will abuse you, box your car in and be an all around complete and utter waste of air. 12: Will make full timers work weekends and claim it's in the contract when it is clearly not. 13: No real benefits. 14: Highest staff turnover I've ever seen in the shortest period of time. So many people left, around a dozen or so. None of their feedback was taken into account. You deserve better.
