Pros

-Lots of great coworkers -Some of the benefits and stipends -Great effort by the people team to create culture and training

Cons

The Sift that many of us know and love is no longer and is a consistent topic of conversation amongst those of us who see this. Turnover is rapid and unexplained, yet no feedback or PIPs are distributed. There have been multiple waves of layoffs in the past year leaving those left behind scrambling to pick up the pieces and start anew. Teams are tighter then ever but expectation and goals have increased to the unobtainable. New hiring isn't transparent, they have stopped sharing salary ranges for new roles which to me means that they are taking advatnage of tech layoffs and hiring people at lower salary ranges then they deserve and is equal to the work they are doing and is being done by others at similar positions already at Sift. Once these new hires figure that out, they'll be gone once the market stabilizes. They is a lot of talk about checking salaries twice a year, proactively adjusting to ensure fairness and market value- false, never been done as far as I know. Raises and promotion are not common. And there is certainly no proactive work to ensure salary fairness, or giving of raises unasked or fought for. Even with company longevity, and being in the tech space, benefits are not really that competitive- lower salaries, no 401K matching, no summer Fridays, few company wide holidays, and no holiday break. Unlimited PTO doesn't mean much when you can't take a break because the work won't get done, most folks work through the monthly mental health day and meet through deep work time. New leadership hires need training on their delivery and communication many of them are abrasive, micromanaging, unavailable and overall need some training as managers to learn how to motivate teams instead of burn them out. They are constantly talking over their teams in meetings, not listening, collaborating or creating feedback loops of any kind- not approachable.

Pros

I’ve been at Sift for several years now, and it’s truly been an amazing experience. From the very beginning, I was welcomed into a culture of collaboration, innovation, and overall mutual respect. This was not easy during pandemic times and there is still a risk of feeling isolated if you are not proactive. The leadership team has tried to be transparent and for the most part, I believe they genuinely care about employee well-being and growth. The work is intellectually stimulating and can be very demanding. There’s always more that could be done for but we just can’t get to it all, so we must prioritize. This has led to some internal conflict on how to best serve our customers. The product is cutting-edge but the competition is fierce, and it’s exciting to work on solutions that are making a significant impact in fraud prevention and digital trust. Sift’s mission is to help everyone trust the internet and it’s something I’m proud to contribute to. Most of my colleagues feel the same. One of the best things about working here is the people. My colleagues are incredibly talented, supportive, and always willing to help each other out. It's easy to collaborate but can be chaotic at times because there can be too many initiatives that are compelling to work on.

Cons

The pace can be fast, and at times, there is a lot on your plate. Sometimes it feels like you’re moving a mountain. If you thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, enjoy solving complex issues and creating structure from chaos, you’ll enjoy it here. Onboarding new teammates can also be hard. Oftentimes information is fragmented, there is too much tribal knowledge and expectations are shifting so it can be difficult for some to navigate this ambiguity. I don’t recommend working here if you enjoy a more defined structure and primary focus is on more steady and incremental gains. It’s more of a start up than a big corporation.

Toxic sinking ship

Pros

The industry is interesting. Compensations and benefits are good. Sift used to have a good work-life balance. That has changed

Cons

Numerous employees have been compelled to leave due to a toxic culture where teams operate in isolation, backstabbing is prevalent, and decisions lack data-driven reasoning.

Pros

Coworkers are great, people team tries to maintain a strong culture

Cons

We just underwent a large round of layoffs, executed quite poorly (pre RIF town hall was a presentation of excuses and no ownership taken for poor performance, low severance offered), after a stretch of quit firing. As a whole, we were already feeling the pressure with unobtainable goals and tight budgets. With this layoff we lost some really exceptional people who performed well and kept the pressure from feeling too overwhelming. Now, those of us remaining are stretched too thin with less resources and the same goals. Really not setting Sift up for success, expecting another wave of layoffs or people leaving of their own accord soon. Would not recommend Sift. Unless you're desperate, avoid for at least the next year or so.

Pros

People are nice as are product and customers

Cons

Layoffs are cyclical here like they don't learn. Sales fall off, layoffs happen to great people who are making real impact, the work is distributed, the team remaining is burnt out but promoted, they hire for the roles they laid off but change up the title slightly like they've "optimized". They have not. Careful taking a role here, longevity is not promised. Like clockwork.
