      Software Engineer Interview

      25 Oct 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Microsoft in Nov 2015

      Interview

My college classmate referred me to the college recruiter. I had a 45 min phone call with the recruiter and was immediately scheduled for an on-site without any technical phone screen. On the day of the on-site interview, I had a quick meeting with the recruiter and was sent on a shuttle to meet my first interviewer. Interviews were held at the interviewers' offices. After every interview, I was asked to stay at the kitchen area while he went to fetch the next interviewer. In general, each interview was 75 min long and the first 10 min was a quick chat about my experience and technical projects. The remaining was for coding questions. There was one lunch interview which is 90 min long. I first had lunch with the interviewer and we chatted about my education, experience, etc and we then headed back to his office for a couple coding questions. There were 5 interviews in total though I heard that if you are sent home after your third (lunch interview), then you are pretty much out of the race. The last interview was with someone at director level. He also asked me a short coding question but mostly about my aspiration and trying to figure which team I would fit in the best. After the last interview, I had the option to leave or meet with the recruiter once more. We were paid for the flight, food, hotel, car rental + $75 allowance for sightseeing.
