My interview started with HR calling me and giving a brief about the company and a broad idea of the role and job content. I was prospected as a generalist (I have good experience of the analytics industry in my domain, an advanced degree in quantitative field and a post graduate degree in management ). An interview was lined up with a Scientist and he asked me to dwscribe one of the project I did in Analytics. He was very nice and tried to get into a more of a discussion mode than asking pointed questions. I satisfied him with most of the technical queries barring one question. He asked me whether I have visited the company in person etc..and tried to be warm. Next interview after a week was lined up with an Analytics Manager though he is quite junior to me. He gave me two business problems and one puzzle in probability. He also came across to me as gentle nice and warm. I answered all questions and goofed up on the probability question although I was very close. Then we chatted over half an hour after the interview and discussed how the org is doing and other issues in the analytics industry. After another week I was scheduled to talk with one Principal . He is very senior and has stellar industry standing. He mostly talked about how he sees Opera as an organisation , issues facing the industry and his clients in particular .......Finally towards the end of the discussion he asked me to give an overview about myself and one technical question. He asked me the difference between LR, Neural NW and DTree. I was scheduled another interview with a Principal similiar to the earlier one in a different country. The interview went on similiarly and everything happened on a good note .One week later I was asked t meet the Delhi Lead and Principal in person. I spent some time with the HR person and an Analytics Manager for around an hour before I was escorted to the Principals room. He was an exceptionally polote and suave business person. We introduced each other . Then he asked me where I thought I fit in the organisation - why I want to quit my current job .He grilled me well on practical business problems. He was courteus enough to drive me home at the end of the interview. I think he was just less than convinced about whether he should offer me the job so finally decided that I should talk to another Principal who is experienced in my area of work and in the same domain I worked for mostly in my career. So I still have not been offered the job yet after 6 rounds of interview lasting one hour each. The final interview was arranged with impecable punctuality and coordination. I got a call next morning from the Principal and HR worked night shift to arrange for the interview. The final session was the best interview of all. We spoke about technical aspects of my work - splitting each areas to to most granular level possible .Then he asked me about other things like hobbies, ambitions and my vision for the next 10 years etc. We had a very warm discussion. I got the offer letter after a couple of days.I am very impressed with the company and the people and the type of work Opera is doing. I got to know about the big clients and how they are engaging Opera on thier critical decisions. It seemed to me that the process is too lengthy and I really havent understood why it should take 4 Principals to assess a candidates capability and fitment. After all I am being prospected as an AM. Everything so far is good except the salary they have offered. The base is almost as much I am getting in my current job and the bonus is 30 -40% of the base. My worry is the conditions of the bonus realisation is not articulated and tey are not mentioning it anywhere. So the salary is very much notional and not real. The HR people have spent hours to discuss that average bonuses at my level is 30-40% of base and I should not worry about it. I have a difficult situation here - my present job gives me enormous stability , written down salary structure, health benefits, foriegn travel with decent per diem costs, independence, flexibility to work from home, paid leaves. I am about to get into a job which attracts me for the job content, intellectual capital but with a low designation, unclear salary .I read in this forum that people have not got thier bonuses at all. If that is the case I will end up getting a bad deal. So I am trying to gather as much information as possible to make up my mind.
