Pros

Good on-the-job learning and career opportunities. Overseas opportunities. Can be flexible on timing. European culture - less patronizing. Pay is good but bonuses are pathetic. You get to work on big projects and I really mean BIG MEGA projects.

Cons

Progress depends on who are your bosses and if they can pull strings for you. Or whether they even want to. Some bosses do care for your development - and others are close to hopeless. HR management from Singapore side is horrible and inconsistent. Little done to identify and retain the high performers. Can result in substantial deadwood. Poor investment in human capital. Skilled and experienced locals may get overlooked for promotion in favour of less experienced French/Italian colleagues.

Pros

Great responsibility for offshore operations and quay-side mobilizations. Less technical role (no direct engineering performed), but more so, practical experience-driven when executing onsite.

Cons

Lots of reading and writing (Purchase Requests>Purchase Orders>Final contracts). Bureaucratic procurement (SAP and Word/Excel heavy) and poor interdepartmental follow-up: you have to do the follow-up when the assigned project inspector and expeditor (POSE) don't follow up on your PO. High workload.
