Application

I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Intuit.

Interview

They gave me an interview invitation a month ago. But when I prepared for this interview(the next day is my scheduled day with them), they canceled this interview because of the full-space for internships. I think it is not proper to do that. Because I think they should choose to tell me about that earlier or keep interviewing and compare me with others later on. I spend so much time on preparing for that!!!

    Interview Questions

    • Question 1: given a pair of all nodes in the graph, find the number of nodes with 0 children & 1 children   Answer Question
    • Question 2:
      Suppose we have some input data describing a graph of relationships between parents and children over multiple generations. The data is formatted as a list of (parent, child) pairs, where each individual is assigned a unique integer identifier.
      parentChildPairs1 = [
          (1, 3), (2, 3), (3, 6), (5, 6), (5, 7), (4, 5),
          (4, 8), (4, 9), (9, 11), (14, 4), (13, 12), (12, 9)
      ]
      Sample input and output:

      hasCommonAncestor(parentChildPairs1, 3, 8) => false
      hasCommonAncestor(parentChildPairs1, 5, 8) => true
      Write a function that takes the graph, as well as two of the individuals in our dataset, as its inputs and returns true if and only if they share at least one ancestor.   Answer Question
    • Take Home test - 2 hrs to solve :

      Packages are sent to our shipping center via a series of autonomous delivery carts, each of which moves packages on a one-way route. Using input that provides the (directed) steps that each cart takes as pairs, write a function that identifies all the start locations, and a list of possible ending locations for each start location.

      The output keys and values should be printed in sorted order.

      In this diagram, starting locations are at the top and destinations are at the bottom - i.e. the graph is directed exclusively downward.   Answer Question

    Difficult Interview

    Application

    I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Intuit (Atlanta, GA (US)) in October 2019.

    Interview

    I was in contact with a recruiter via handshake app for months and then visited their booth when they came to campus. Mentioned the reference of the recruiter I have been in contact with. Filled out an application online. They asked me to do an online coding challenge via hackerrank. Not going to lie, the problem was very difficult. I was still able to crack it somehow. Then they scheduled this online video interview with an engineer from Karat. Now mind you, this person is very nice and friendly but knows over 30 coding languages and has experience in this industry for over 35 years. Me, myself, I am just a sophomore trying to learn more about the company and get some experience.
    So, the interviewer gave me a coding challenge to solve and it was based on Data Structures. They didn't ask me if I had covered it yet (I am taking Data Structures next semester). So, I go ahead try approaching the problem with the knowledge I had(so like ArrayList and using for loops). Now the engineer wants me to take the data structures approach and ended up kind of walking me through the entire code. This made me look like I had zero knowledge and didn't know what I was doing. The interview ended very embarrassingly for me. I just wish they would've not made their interview process very hard and maybe get to ask the student where they are in school as of now and what courses they have taken. Honestly, it worked out for the best as another company(pretty famous) hired me because they asked me those questions first and then tested my knowledge and didn't give me problem after problem to solve. I wanted to learn more about Intuit's culture as I use most of their products and could've brought fresher ideas to the table if they did any kind of behavioral interview at the very least.

    Interview Questions

    • two coding challenges.
      First one was using 2D arrays and solving a grid
      The second one was using data structures in front of an engineer   Answer Question

    1) Karat interview - a couple technical questions asked by someone external to Intuit - fair, standard technical questions.
