Job overview:
Lead social media strategy and execution for The Diggers Club. The Social Media Manager will lead in the design and creation of organic social content to drive engagement and conversations with our target audience and member community. They will be responsible for the growth of our social media presence (followers, engagement and attribution to site traffic)
Principal Accountabilities
- Create engaging digital content (photo, video, and written) to showcase garden activitiies seasonal highlights, and sustainability stories
- Collaborate with the marketing team to plan and execute social media campaigns and storytelling opportunities
- Post content regularly across key platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook), ensuring relevance and brand alignment
- Work closely with the Head of Gardens, Head of Seeds and other horticultural advisors to incorporate expert insight into content planning and educational and seasonal topics (this applies regardless of the candidate’s own gardening experience)
- Serve as an on-camera presence and face of The Diggers Club, participating in filming around the garden to support storytelling and member engagement; candidates must be presentable and able to represent The Diggers Club brand
- Execute content series for digital channels, ensuring consistency in message, timing, and tone
- Capture behind-the-scenes stories and educational moments to inspire members and the public
- Contribute to the seasonal content calendar in alignment with gardening priorities
- Monitor content performance and audience engagement; offer feedback and new ideas
- Ensure consistency of tone, message, and values across all public-facing content
- Support the delivery of online engagement such as live Q&As, blog articles, or short-form garden updates
- Ensure compliance with brand, privacy, and intellectual property requirements across all content creation, including appropriate permissions for filming, photography, and third-party material use
- Coordinate content logistics, including scheduling shoots, managing equipment, and liaising with internal teams to ensure timely and efficient delivery of content
- Identify and leverage emerging social media trends and platform features to enhance audience engagement and expand digital reach
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of digital content processes, including recommending tools, workflows, and efficiencies to optimise content production and delivery
- Support cross-functional initiatives and campaigns, ensuring horticultural expertise is incorporated into wider organisational communications and promotions
- Any other tasks or projects as directed by your manager or the business
Skills and Qualifications
- 3–5 years’ experience creating content for digital platforms, including photography, short-form video, captions and storytelling
- Horticultural experience in a professional or personal capacity (ideal)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Extensive experience across social media platforms including Meta (Instagram and Facebook), TikTok, LinkedIn and emerging platforms, with strong awareness of trends and best practices
- Ability to work independently in an outdoor team environment
- Strong time management and task planning skills
- Experience using digital tools for scheduling or reporting (e.g., Canva, Meta Suite)
