Hiring Development Engineer – Machining Workshop
Role Summary
The Development Engineer will be responsible for developing and improving machining processes, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing methods to achieve higher productivity, quality, and cost efficiency. The role involves close coordination with production, quality, design, and maintenance teams.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Product & Process Development
- Develop machining processes for new and existing components.
- Prepare process sheets, operation sequences, and work instructions.
- Select suitable machining methods, cutting tools, and process parameters.
- Conduct trials and process validation for new products.
Tooling & Fixture Development
- Design and develop jigs, fixtures, gauges, and tooling concepts.
- Coordinate with toolmakers and vendors for tooling development.
- Optimize tool life and cutting conditions.
CNC Programming & Manufacturing Support
- Create or optimize CNC programs for milling, turning, drilling, and related operations.
- Support production teams in troubleshooting machining issues.
- Reduce cycle times while maintaining quality standards.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for productivity improvement and cost reduction.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen initiatives.
- Analyze OEE, downtime, scrap, and rework data.
Quality & Process Control
- Perform process capability studies.
- Conduct root cause analysis for quality issues.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.
Technical Documentation
- Prepare BOMs, process documentation, setup sheets, and engineering change records.
- Maintain development records and technical reports.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work with production, quality, maintenance, purchase, and customers.
- Coordinate with suppliers for tooling, fixtures, and machining solutions.
Required Skills
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of machining processes:
- CNC Turning
- CNC Milling
- VMC/HMC operations
- Drilling, tapping, boring, grinding
- Knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, and tooling systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Understanding of manufacturing tolerances and fits.
- Knowledge of process planning and routing.
Software Skills
- CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Autodesk Inventor.
- CAM software such as Mastercam or SolidCAM.
- Good proficiency in Excel and manufacturing data analysis.
Quality & Engineering Knowledge
- GD&T interpretation.
- SPC and process capability analysis.
- Root cause analysis tools:
- 5 Why
- Fishbone Diagram
- FMEA
- Control Plans
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and manufacturing quality systems.
Soft Skills
- Problem-solving mindset.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Project management and planning.
- Communication and team coordination.
- Ability to lead improvement projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering.
- 3–8 years’ experience in CNC machining/manufacturing engineering.
- Experience in precision machining, automotive, aerospace, hydraulics, or industrial components.
- Hands-on experience with fixture development and process optimization.
