The Software Engineering Manager coordinates the execution of the engineering strategy and roadmap that supports BT's commercial strategy through cross functional business partnering and the participation of a team that pursues innovation as well as engineering excellence.
o Lead engineering teams critical to organisational performance, ensuring high-quality outcomes delivered predictably to time/budget.
o Coach, mentor, and develop engineers; build capability for current priorities and future platform evolution.
o Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, tooling, and methods that progressively advance service capabilities.
o Own and communicate an ambitious technical roadmap for Remote Access services that maps to business needs and constraints.
o Provide day-to-day engineering leadership for Remote Access platforms, operating as a hands-on technical leader where needed, and ensuring excellent cross-team collaboration.
o Translate the agreed access architecture into actionable engineering backlogs, runbooks, and measurable outcomes (e.g., experience, stability, adoption, compliance).
o Work with security and governance stakeholders to ensure Remote Access services remain secure-by-design and compliant with organisational standards.
o Citrix focus areas
o Service engineering oversight for Citrix-based desktop/apps delivery, including resilience, performance, and lifecycle hygiene (patching/upgrades/compatibility).
o Improve platform stability and experience outcomes (e.g., measurable logon performance and defect/bug burn-down as part of engineering engagement).
o Zscaler focus areas (examples of scope):
o Support the progression of zero-trust access patterns through Zscaler capabilities (e.g., private access and internet access patterns), ensuring smooth transitions for user cohorts and apps
•Operational excellence (SRE mindset)
o Ensure team standards of engineering and operational excellence are upheld; implement metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement.
o Build services that are secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored, and reusable, with robust automation to support continuous delivery and developer productivity.
o Engage stakeholders regularly to understand requirements and translate them into outcomes-focused delivery plans (delivered in sprints / iterative delivery
o Operate as an SME in Remote Access engineering, contributing to group-level discussions and balancing short-term impact with long-term transformation
